The Human Code repository acts as a source-of-record routing node with explicit downstream destinations rather than indiscriminate copying.
CASE STUDY 06 / DEVELOPER INFRASTRUCTURE
Human Code Continuity Spine
A repository-backed convergence and provenance system for preserving project state across long-running conversations, branches, agents, repositories, decisions, conflicts, and superseded designs.
AI-assisted projects forget in dangerous ways.
Long-running projects accumulate chat transcripts, branch experiments, stale summaries, partial implementations, duplicate files, changed terminology, and decisions that may or may not have been accepted. A fluent assistant can easily make an old claim sound current.
The Continuity Spine turns continuity itself into infrastructure: source provenance is preserved, conflicts remain visible, and no conversation summary is allowed to silently become Canon.
Convergence has explicit states.
The current branch is intentionally still in HARVEST. A prior premature freeze is preserved as a superseded historical receipt instead of being erased.
CHAT ≠ CANON · DISPOSITION ≠ CANON · ACCEPTED GOVERNING ARTIFACT = CANON
Evidence is routed, not merely summarized.
Machine-readable filing contracts, inheritance queues, validators, and tests separate where an item belongs from whether it has been accepted.
Repository PRs, branches, reachable commits, unique files, duplicate/supersession relationships, and unresolved items can be classified without blindly merging them.
Known failures stay visible.
The repository currently preserves the convergence system as active engineering work and explicitly denies FREEZE, MERGE_READY, merge, and production transition.
Ecosystem-boundary conformance and the repository-convergence exhaustive-audit workflow passed on the recorded checkpoint.
The current recorded checkpoint includes pre-existing schema violations and ontology-lint debt. Those failures are preserved instead of being hidden by the portfolio.
A separate security prerequisite scaled trusted HMAC scanning for larger convergence ledgers while retaining fail-closed handling and trusted-code boundaries.
Continuity is a software problem.
The system is not a fancy project notebook. It tries to answer an engineering question: how can a large AI-assisted program survive context loss, agent replacement, branching, partial merges, corrections, and conflicting evidence without letting the newest narrative overwrite the source record?
- Generated evidence does not equal human-reviewed resolution.
- Human-reviewed resolution does not equal accepted Canon unless the governing process says so.
- Inventory does not equal convergence completion.
- Failure to find an item is not proof that it never existed.
- No automatic sibling-repository write or production transition is implied.
WHAT I LEARNED
The more capable AI becomes, the less acceptable it is to let project truth live only inside a conversation. Durable systems need provenance, authority, conflict handling, rollback, and a way to say “we still do not know.”
